In the 1950’s Japan was witnessing a post-war industrial revolution. Several new manufacturing techniques and materials were being discovered and new products were being introduced to change the way people experienced life. During this time, Michio Sugasawara also began looking for new opportunities to expand the company’s product offerings. His father who was the original founder of Sugatsune always taught Michio
to embrace inspiration and creativity in order to make a positive impact on people’s lives. Inspired by kitchen sink manufacturers and the automotive industry’s use of stainless steel, he began to study this material and its properties. Michio understood its ability to withstand corrosive elements but also reasoned that by using this durable material, waste would be eliminated as a result of the product’s longevity. As an added benefit, stainless steel can also be finished in a way that doesn’t require plating or other methods that pollute the environment.
From this point on, Sugatsune has specialized in developing hardware solutions using stainless steel which the marine and transportation industries have relied on for years. And being AS9120 B/ISO 9001 certified, Sugatsune’s reputation for quality provides confidence to those in aerospace as well as those developing medical, food and manufacturing equipment.
Products in particular that stand out in stainless steel are our lineup of BCTS tension catches. Over the years, our NSF certified BCTS tension catches have been a top selling product for food equipment as well as a top specified item in manufacturing machinery and medical diagnostic equipment. And because of its 316 marine grade stainless steel construction, it continues to be amongst the most specified catch for the boating industry. The ALL-New BCTS-85J takes our line up of tension catches to another level. We’ve heard from many OEM customers that they desire a stronger holding force for applications which in response, we have built this catch to feature up to 18.4 lbs of holding force. But that’s not all, a new adjustability feature allows the user the flexibility to have various tensions with a single part. The pull force can be adjusted between 1.8 and 18.4 lbs and the push force between 1.8 and 17.3 lbs by simply using a 3mm hex key. Think of all of the applications where this range can come in handy. From cabinets and drawers on boats, medical carts and in gaming machines to heavier duty machinery, mobile trash compactors and on airplanes, this new RoHS compliant catch has the versatility and durability that can be counted on in almost any industry.
Furthermore, the new BCTS-85J adjustable tension catch has a self adjustment feature that will adjust to function even if small misalignments occur over time. For instance, if a drawer or cabinet door is slammed shut and doesn’t quite align exactly, the BCTS-85J will allow for the door to still close and catch in a hold position from the side or the front. Engineers across many industries have relied on Sugatsune’s BCTS tension catch and the new BCTS-85J expands the line up to help resolve even more heavier duty challenges.
