Team Spotlight: Dwight Jones

Dwight Jones was born in Jackson, MS and shortly after moved to Los Angeles, CA where he grew up and attended Carson High School. Dwight loved living in California, but after graduation he was offered a full athletic scholarship to Concordia College in Moorehead, MN for basketball. Alongside playing sports in college, Dwight gained his bachelor’s degree in psychology and met his now wife of 40 years, Janet.

After graduating from Concordia, Dwight returned to Southern California where he eventually married his college sweetheart and started a family. During his tenure at a Marine Supply Company in Southern California, he developed a relationship with Ed Black, former National Sales Manager for Sugatsune America who had recently started our operations in the United States. In January of 1987, Dwight decided to join the Sugatsune America family and helped lay the foundation for 34 years.

Starting as a warehouse manager, Dwight oversaw a small fledgling operation in Carson, CA in the original 5,000 sq/ft space. During the 1990's Dwight helped oversee the operations that tripled in size and supported sales that grew over 500% from when he joined. His responsibilities grew when third-party logistics were added in Indiana and Illinois to support continued growth in the 2000s. In 2008, the new and current Savarona facility was opened to meet the growing business needs.  As the company continued the growing with the opening of the Chicago showroom in 2011 and Addison warehouse in 2013, Dwight was promoted to the role of Senior Vice President, taking over for his predecessor, Eddie Kawai, to lead Sugatsune America.

During the past decade, Dwight was instrumental in enhancing Sugatsune’s processes allowing Sugatsune America to achieve AS9120 B: ISO9001 certification. The numerous improvements that he's made over the years have continued to help the growth of this company and his contributions will impact Sugatsune for years to come. Today, Sugatsune operates over 50,000 sq/ft of logistics in three locations in North America.

Dwight and his wife Janet raised three beautiful daughters, Camille and twins Alyssa and Adrienne, whom are all successful in their professional fields. His wife Janet, recently retired from a long career in science from the county of Los Angeles and will be enjoying her retirement alongside Dwight. Dwight is well known for his cooking skills, especially his BBQ ribs and his gumbo which comes from his southern roots and he is excited to enjoy more of his home cooked meals in retirement.

The Sugatsune family congratulates Dwight on his retirement as he has been a major part of our family for the past 34 years. We would like to recognize his wife Janet, Camille, Allissa, Adrien and all of his extend family for their support during Dwight's time at Sugatsune. We wish him the very best in his next chapter of life with his wonderful family.

Thank you for all of your hard work and a wonderful 34 years!
